i think mill .500 off each side,some solid bronze bushings and it is in there.i have had to do that to put late model honda swingarms in older chassis or cut it off build a new pivot tube and weld it back on.
Due to the way that the arm is cast I'm not sure he can just cut off what he can't use. I'd be leary of welding on to a cast part like that. Now if it was extruded or machined like that I wouldn't think twice. But welding to a cast part that's in such a high stress area would scare the crap outta me.
I think if he really wants to use the arm he can either widen the frame OR grab a Kz100ST frame which is a couple inches wider.

Just my thought... prove me wrong and show me a swingarm swap that also reinforced the shock mounts!! (i would honestly be happy because i have a zrx1100 rear end, that I plan on adding to my 650...I want to know how to do it right!)
