i was wondering if it would be possible to put shocks from a kz 400 on a z1 900 to lower the bike?

Hi oldkaw4, I don't have any first hand knowlegde but I wouldn't try that myself. The KZ400 shocks are probably rated for a much lighter bike and would be too soft. Especialy if you ever took a passenger for a ride and/or was riding under HARD acceleration.

I have to agree with Zedone on that. I've had good luck using 500 Vulcan shocks on my 650's but if I were looking to lower a 900 I'd probably look for a set of shocks from a 750 or 800 Vulcan. They have the air adjustable feature but they are about 1.25" shorter than the stock shocks, they do tend to fetch a little more money than the 500 shocks do though.
Another option to consider would be shocks from a 750 or 1100 Yamaha Virago. They are shorter as well and are more inline with the weight of your bike.

i had a kz400 i parted out a couple years ago.kit in nyc who used to be on here got most of the parts.anyway from what i remember the shocks were really lightweights compared to any of the shocks ive run over the years so i wouldnt suggest it either, try a set of sportster shocks they are easy to find just stand out side a bike shop and watch the stock parts start flying off the bike and out the door as the new harley owner spends $20,000.00 PERSONALIZING his new harley with junk off the shelves and out of the catalogs of the harley dealer !
