Front Disc Brake Calipers size and replacement was created by Knowmad
I would like to get after market front disc brake calipers for my 78 KZ1000 project bike.
The ones I saw on ebay said good on any KZ1000 up to 1979, use on 10 inch rotors only.
My rotors are larger than 10", more like 12 inches across at the widest point.
Am I measuring these correctly?
Did the KZ have 10" rotors stock?
Has anyone found any decent after market calipers for the KZ1000?

Hi Dave, I have replaced my stock calipers with Performance Machine (4 piston). They are kinda pricey but they are worth it (IMO). I also bought the correct rotors. If you look at their website you have to look in the dragbike section to find them. I also went with their master cylinders.

Pic #3, The rotor looks worse than it actually is, I will get it refinished though as this is a showbike I'm building, regards Doug

i went to their site but it says i need to download some program to view catalog but it still wont work!so i ordered the printed version which should hopefully arive some time before i die!:laugh:

PM has a lot of great stuff. I was not looking for show bike stuff really, although that would be cool. I am looking at something that is bolt on with the 1978 forks and rotors. I did not want to go with an old set and rebuild the calipers but it looks like that is the only way, on a budget max $300. It looks like full rebuild kits and pads for two calipers will run me over $150 so some extra $$ for bolt and go would be worth it.
Questions:
Does anyone know the size of the stock rotor?

They are 12", same as the ones I have on my 750 twin.
I am using 83 GPz750 calipers on my 750 twin, and the GPz750 had 10" rotors. The brake pads do not contact the full width of the braking surface on the rotor, it misses about 1/4" of covering it. I'm fairly certain that I could lock the front wheel, and either slide it, or do a stoppie, if I so desired, but I don't desire
I think it cost me a little over $100 for the dual braided stainless lines from the master cylinder direct to the calipers (got rid of that $%^$^ splitter), $40 shipped for the rotors and $25 shipped for the master cylinder off eBay, I already had the calipers.
$20 for new pads, so I have $180 in it and all the brakes I want (except once, rebuild the master cylinder if you get a used one)
