On my 650SR I currently have a 15 tooth drive sprocket. I recently purchased this bike and it seemed to have high RPMs for the speed. Granted it is quick off the line; but I'm not comfortable with the high revs at cruise speed. I understand the stock SR came with 16 tooth sprocket. Originally I was thinking of going with a 17 tooth to bring down the rpms; but will 15 to 17 tooth be a huge jump? I would like about 4500 RPMs or less at cruising at about 90 to 100ks; now I'm doing about 5000K to 5500Ks plus.
Note I seem to have the stock sprocket on the rear wheel; 42T.

17T will lower torque but improve you gas mileage. Here is a gear ratio chart for your reference. Hope this helps.

Well I installed the 17T front sprocket and am glad I did. There is a significant drop in RPMs at cruising. At 110Ks it's revving at about 5500RPM. Before I was doing 90K at those revs with the 15T sprocket.
I think I got soaked from the dealer for the OEM Kawasaki sprocket. $80 CAD. Supposedly it has some noise dampening feature. But all I see are two 3/8" holes drilled in the sprocket. But I am very satisfied with the result.
