HELP !!
Has any one made a tool for holding the damping rod on a 1976 KZ 900 A4 ? I've searched MANY post, But have not seen a tool for the A4. I have the tools with the 19mm nut, But this one is beating me up. I tried leaving the forks in the triple tree's and hit the 8mm allen bolt with an air impact gun only to have the damper rod spin.

ANY help would be appreciated.

I used a small wooded broom handle and whittled the end of it enough that it would hold the rod. If I remember correctly the handle was about 3/4" diameter. You could buy a couple diffreent sizes of dowel rod at Lowes, etc.
On one fork I didn't need the broom handle; I just esed a 3/4 drive air impact gun.
Btw, the forks were from a ZR-7S but should basically be the same.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Jim

Hey Guy's
Thanks for all the response's.
After I dropped the front tire I hit the allen bolt with 1/2in. Air impact, I have had good luck with this method in the past, But not this time.

I can't use the shaved down dowel either because it appears as I look down the fork tube that the center isn't hollow.

This is the time I've had this much trouble doing fork seal's in a long time.

If I manage to get these things apart I'll post a pic.
Thank's
Ron

I have that tool. Would you like to see it?

It's Kawasaki part number 57001-176. It's basically a 3/8" socket that's made to fit onto a 9/16" dia. round with two flats.

I ran into the same issue. I broke the allen bolts with a long breaker bar then the damper rod would just spin.

I used a 1/2 battery impact (milwalkee), but couldn't get the bolts out, rod kept spinning.

Then took a toilet bowl plunger handle and filed it to a blunt point and decided to use my 1/4 air impact, much higher rpm.

Anyhow, with fork assembly lying long ways in front of me, shoved handle in open end and hit the air impact in small 5 second bursts. Within about 1 minute, both fork tubes were done.

Nonetheless, appreciate the info on the post. Saved me more headaches and time.

This is the second set of forks I have done and first time I have encountered the rod spinning. Now I know, Thanks.
