KZ1000 What front end? was created by supercharged
I'm looking to make an old style superbike with new style parts, so I figure I should ask those that know...
The base bike will be a KZ1000 and probably an LTD. I'm wanting a newer front end and thinking Gixxer 1000. Any input. I have been watch a few threads here, but searching for this topic didn't get me much.
Also doing a swingarm. Not sure where to go, but figure I would want to bring it out (extend) maybe 2-4", since I think the originals look a bit stout. Open to suggestions...

what are you planning to do with the bike?a 4" over arm is going to cancel out any cornering advantages of newer frontend

Looking for a superbike styled bike. Just for use as a weekend warrior.
I thought 4 might be pushing it...
Oh thinking of going 17" wheel on back. and may have a frame person adjust trail after conversion.

Might try Mcintosh for the swingarm. He modified mine for me. I had a 2" over arm and he lengthened it to an adjustable 10" over arm with new hardware. Cost me around $ 400. Well worth it and great workmanship,
Here is his web site.

Also - here are some pics of my bike from another thread. You should be able to check out the swingarm from the pics.
Pics are toward the end of the thread.

'Charged,
Are you wanting to keep cornering clearance or do you want the long and low look? Pretty much any newer front end except some of the Zx9R's and a few years for the Gsxr1100 are going to be shorter than you stock forks. Running a 17" rim compared to the stock 19" will also make the drop even worse. You can get around this by making stepped yokes for the steering but that can become pricey.
I've did a newer front end swap. Look here .
Later, Doug

For the updated USD the ZX9 legs are the longest OEM available. I think it is the '94 that has the provisions for six piston calipers.
As for the swingarm a Suzuki TL1000 swing arms are some of the shorter late models out there...
The issue is exacerbated by placing 17" wheels but the advantages are great as you can then use the new radial rubber.
Take your time... I sure have... Just have the swing arm at the moment.
If your going to mess with suspension geometry make sure what your goals are.

Good point. No, I'm not looking to drop the front, my goal is an old style superbike look with new components. I like to lowered dragbike look, but that is not my goal here.

What about a ZRX or Bandit front end? They got the old skool look with new school innards. I just don't know the length of either of them.

I just had this conversation with my mechanic. I'm in the same boat. The origional goal was to go all new school (USD Front End) components. Not so much any more. Seeing the A-Magic rece bike running on traditional legs made me think... "Man, why not just find a ZRX front end"....
Have not placed a measuring tape on a ZRX yet, not sure of the length either.... But on the other hand having some extended fork tubes (if needed) is more liely than finding them for a USD leg.
Big concern for me is not lowering the bike. Been there with mini trucks and grinding underbelly hard parts is not somthing I aspire to do much these days.
Ive already touched the header with the existing suspension when riding. Hate to see how my pipe will turn out if it's lower to the ground.

the only advice I can give is address the chain to frame , tire clearance issue well before you paint or powder coat the frame,I made this mistake well to late asfar as the modern components check my ride out in the projects, its still a work in progress. Good Luck.
