Tapered steering head bearings Problem was created by kxhonda
I ordered a set of tapered head bearing from Z1E. These
here
. And I am having a problem with the upper seal. It doesn't sit down far enough to seal anything up. I've made sure that my races and bearings are seated all the way. The bottom bearing seal is good and sits inside the frame. I'm just afraid that a bunch of dirt and grime will get in there and ruin them in no time. I was gonna try to get a pic but batteries were dead in camera. Anyone else have this problem?

Had the same problem on the 750 twin, there's simply no way to push the bearing race down far enough to fit the seal, so I threw it away.
Figured the dust cap on top will do the job.
Didn't order a top seal when I put the GSX front end on the KZ750E, it would not have fit either.

I drilled & tapped the neck on mine for a grease fitting and just give it a shot once every 2 weeks . You just have to wipe the excess off but it keeps dirt out...I think

I think I'm gonna take the top bearing to work and take about 30 thousands off of the top of the inner race with the surface grinder so that the seal sits down closer to the frame. And maybe take some off the the bottom of the race thats pressed into the frame. I really don't like the idea of that bearing being open or squirting grease everywhere.
So I take it this is how everyones AllBalls kit has been on the 650?

Don't take to much off or the bottom and/or top clamp will rest on the neck.
