'81 KZ550 single rotor front end was created by Dirt Nap 312
The "81 KZ550 D-1 & "81 KZ550 C-2 that I recently bought have a single rotor front rim. Th front forks have the mounting tabs for the calipers on both forks. The D-1 had none of the brake setup but the C-2 had the master cylinder, top line, divider block, one bottom line, and the rotor but no caliper. Everyone I ask about it tries to sell me a dual rotor setup. My question is was a single rotor an option or was the dual rotor an option. I have looked through your gallery and have seen alot of 550s with this setup so I don't think it was somebody's hack job. It looks like one or the other was an option.:S Thanx in advance for all the help!

The 550'S started with a front single disc and a rear drum. Ol' ma Kawa added over the next couple of years another disc up front and put a disc on the rear. It's regarded by some as an improvment to add another disc on the front cos often the fork leg has the mounting point and being quite heavy:cheer: it's a good move.:woohoo:
The master cylinder,[bane of my life] is different between the two [1/2" for single[or 14mm] and 5/8" for twin disc.
The splitter on the lower triple tree with a double disc setup takes an elongated double banjo bolt.[3 lines, one in, two out.]
I dont know about the wheel itself, Ive only got one but it may have not been capable of taking another disc.

SPARKY47 Thanx for the info! I am willing to bet that your front rim is one sided. More than likely an Enkei F-1057.

I have a manual but it makes a vauge refernce to single rotors in the brake section. I will take a look at your manual and see if there is any differance.
