Modern brake calliper and rotor on a 74 z1? was created by oldkaws4ever
I was just wondering if there was a modern style caliper and rotor that i could bolt onto a 74 z1? I can make an adapter plate for the calliper so that isn't a problem, are there any newer bikes were the rotor would bolt up to the z1 hub? Or would i be ok with just putting say a GSXR calliper on the stock z1 rotor? Thanks guys.

Most of the GSXR calipers are opposed piston design I believe, meaning they have pistons on both sides of the rotor, and if that's the case (and I think it is), I doubt you will have enogh clearance between the rotor and the wheel to fit one on there.
If your objective is more stopping power, then you could get the calipers off a 83-85 GPz750 or 83-84 GPz1100, the GPz's of those years use 10" rotors, and when you stick those calipers on a 12" rotor the stopping power is increased.
The 76-80 750 twins use the same rotors as the 77-79 1000's, so I put the drilled rotors off a 79 1000 on my 750 twin, and originally used the 1000 calipers. I switched the calipers to 83 GPz750 and was amazed at the increase in stopping power.
Maybe they will work on your bike.

Lot of the triple guys use a ex500 caliper with a custom bracket. That should work on z1 as h1/h2 stock calipers will bolt on a z1. I have one on my H1 and stops like a mother f**ker. Might sell as I like the period correct stuff.
