Chain too tight? was created by SuperTrey
I recently replaced the chain and sprockets on my 78 kz1000 a2. I went with the 503 chain and matching sprockets.
Since then, it seems to shift hard, or go into gear from neutral hard. Can this be caused by the chain being too tight?

Measure the chain slack at the Midway point between cc and rear sprockets. The KZ900 specs recommend 1 1/4" distance of verticle travel for optimum performance... Not sure about the KZ1000 but should be ~ the same.

Quick question, is it a 530 chain with matching sprockets or did you convert both sprocket sizes to match the 630 gearing?

Lube that clutch cable. You'd be amazed how much better it feels, and how easier you'll be able to find neutral. Worked wonders for me. If it's a new cable, lube it anyways, as it's not from the factory, or where ever you got it from.

it is a 530 chain with matching sprockets, but I changed the gearing slightly to reduce rpm at highway speed.
