Rear brake disk diameter on 1000 B3? was created by dman3998
Hi,
I am new to the KZ world, just picked up a 79kz1000 ltd.
I am overhauling the brakes and misc. I found the rear pads were not all the way pressing on the disk like it was too small of a diameter. what should the od of the rear disk be? I can only find pictures and part numbers but no dimensions.
Thanks in advance
Dave

a little more investigation on the rotor OD question If i measure from the center of the axle mount on the rear caliper to the outside edge of where the brake pad mounts, it would have to have an 11.5" od disk for the pad to not be hanging off the edge of the disk. would someone with a B3 or B4 ltd look on the rear caliper and tell me if the pads are all the way on the rotor or do they hang off the outside edge by about 1/4"?
That does not seam right but you never know. the front pads are inside the disk od by at least 1/8" that would make more sense to me.
Thanks

When I got my 78 the rear brake didn't work at all. I looked into it and found the rear rotor was having the same issue as yours. It had the ltd wheels on it and someone put the spoke wheel rotor on it. The ltd rotor is about 1/4 inch bigger. I got lucky and found one in a wrecking yard. Look on ebay and ask them to measure it for you. Easy fix. I just tossed the rear wheel about two weeks ago or I would have one for you.

Any Idea if the 77-78 disk will fit the 79-80 it looks like the only difference is the 79/80 has vent holes drilled in the disk face.
thanks
