Lip service? ID wheels was created by MkII
Just recieved a decent 19" rear mag from a fellow KZR member, my question is I noticed the diff between it and another set of 1979 LTD wheels I have. The LTD wheels have the lip and the 19" doesn't. both are Enke's and both Kaw mags but I was hoping someone might be able to ID this type of wheel and shed light as to what model/s it may originate from. wheel w/lip on left, see photo below. thanks

From what I remember, the 76-78 mags were a little different than the 79 and 80. I don't remember the exact details, but there are definitely differences between the years, although I think they are only cosmetic. By the way, is that an 18" rear, or a 19"front?

The Kaw List:
Current: 79 KZ1000 A3 MKII, 78 KZ1000 A2, 78 KZ1000 Z1-R, 78 KZ650 SR, 80 KE175
Former: 03 KLX400SR, 99 ZRX1000, 82 KZ750 LTD, 80 KZ1000 A4 MKII, 80 KZ1000 LTD, 78 KZ1000 A2, 74 H-2 750 Triple, 78 KL250

MKII:

We may have a bit of sleuthing to do on your mags. I strolled out to the garage and looked at my mags (both bikes 1982's, one an 1100, the other a 750). Interestingly, Kawasaki used the same mags (based on part numbers) for both bikes. I strongly suspect both bikes are original equipment, but I noticed that both the front and rears are different, comparing bikes. Oh, both bikes use 19" fronts and 18" rears, but the manuf/suppliers may be different. The mags for the 1100 are cast with 'enkei 5' while those of the 750 are cast with 'kawasaki'...same year, same part numbers, but different suppliers (this is the sort of stuff that drives the collectors crazy  ).

The bottom line being 19" mags appeared on many different Z's and there may be differences even with the same part number. BTW, both bikes have 'lips' on their mags.
