"It will, especially if you are used to worn out shocks... and wallow in the corners."
HA. Yeah, I'm used to that

OK - but would the extra, lets say an inch, make it unstable at speed?

Would the extra inch off these shocks make my bike unstable(82 kz1000)? Or could it improve handling slightly?

Imo, the better practice is staying with oem design specs, including eye-to-eye shock length. Other things equal, raising rear end likely reduces "stability" by quickening steering (affects steering geometry closely akin to raising fork tubes inside the triple clamps). And may cause or magnify any tendency to head-shake, especially at higher speeds, and perhaps initiate a possible tank-slapper situation.

Good Luck! :)

With the GPz 750 and the 750 Turbo, conventional wisdom says to turn the eccentric chain adjusters upside down, thereby raising the rear of the bike and quickening steering (It worked when I did it with mine). Seems to support the idea that longer rear shocks could quicken handling. Of course, the Turbo is really long and is as stable as an aircraft carrier - your result may differ.

Patton makes a good point (ie quicker handling=less stability), but if you are thinking about ignoring it anyway, there's some good stuff on www.750turbo.com in their "how-to" section regarding suspension set-up.
