Noob here! what frame is best for chopin a kz1000? was created by Humboldt_Z
So it sounds like I woun't be murdered here if I chop a kz1000. I have a guy that will do the chopping for me and he used a kz650. I have been loookin at a kz1000 police bike. The frame is pretty beefy and I am wondering if their is a huge difference on the size of tubing and frame in general on the police frame and a regular kz1000 frame?
Here is the pic of the one the guy had before.

Thanks I am stoked about this new venture! I would like to do the work myself but I am afraid of having the bike drive sideways when I get it done! Upon further investigation it looks like I would be better off with a 650, the Police bike I looked at today had about 1.25" or 1.5" tubing on the bottom frame rails. I am assuming its because of the weight of the 1000cc motor and all the other crap that the police issue bike had on it. I would like to have the power of the 1000cc but I would guess its not nessasary, especially with a bike with no front brake!!!
Here are the pics that the guy sent me from his build

Welcome to KZR, I think your better off with a 650. Especially with no front brakes. Good luck with the chopper.

ya I think your right. I'm not set on the no front brake crazyness just yet. how stupid is it to not run a front brake? I just love the way the front wheel looks w/o brakes! so If i was to go no brake I should prolly keep it under warp speed!

No front brakes means 80% loss in braking power. Rear brake is more or less "nice to have" but front brakes are a must!
And as for chop-or-not I personally do not like chopped Kwaks. Ya have those V-2´s to mess with so why try to chop a bike that was never meant to be a chopper. Sorry, just my 0,02€...

I'm with Z1109R...not a big fan of any chopped bikes...have only seen a few Z's chopped that were exceptional. BUT, to each his own...this forum is broad-based...also. I reiterate that you should retain the front brakes. You should also be aware that there is a fair amount of similarity between the 650's and early model 1000's in terms of overall size and weight...and I need to mention that there are many C and P bikes bumping around for you to experiment with:)
