Has anyone relined or know anyone who relines motorcycle brake drums. I have a really nice set of lester mags and my brake drum is looking rather out of spec. I do have a resource for metal spraying them, but no machine work. I would much rather have a new drum "pressed in" anyone, anyone, Bueller?

ive had clutch rebuilding places reline brake shoes years ago,not sure if they have access to what you need though.isnt the sleeve installed before hub is cast,how would you keep it from spinning inside hub?:blink:

bore it out and install a new ring with press fit like you would sleeve a block then drill and countersink screws,or rivit it to the hub.

Thread the outside of the sleeve and tap the hub haha. It'd work, but sooooooo time consuming.

Any competent machine shop should be able to bore that one out and make and fit another one.
A shrink fit will be more than sufficient to hold it, no rivets/screws/etc needed.
I've spent the last few days installing new pins and bushings in a Cat backhoe, using a freezer and a rosebud torch the parts just slide together, when the temps equalize a 20 ton press won't separate them.

that is what im talking about, heat hub, freeze ring, press and when temps eq viola. now where do i get a new wear ring?

Getting the worn surface out is easy, just fasten it to the mill table and use a boring head with the appropriate cutting bit in the boring bar. Or, if you have a lathe with a large enough swing, it's even easier.
That's what machine shops are for
As for a new wear ring,, I'd probably use any of the mild steels, like 1018, 1045, etc, cheap, easy to machine, and they ought to work for the application. I'd think about case hardening it, that would give it a lot more wear resistance.

my arc spray guy said cobalt tungsten, which is what he would use is 50-55 Rc. that is pretty hard. I just don't know if anyone local to me will do the machine work at a reasonable cost, besides, I just bought a GS1100 roller and will probably make a disk brake swap soon!

so you will have a lester mag with a slightly worn brake drum for sale soon 18" or 16"!!!!!!!!
