Can anyone help me. Are there any differences in the Z1 front ends?

the Z1 front end is different on the KZ. I think 76 is when they changed, the Z1 has smaller bolt centers for the caliper mount and they had reflectors on the fork tubes.

early 72/73 Z1 front sliders had larger lugs for the front fender mount. I think the early z1's also had a differant dampening set up. Other than that all the same z1,z1A,z1B all have reflectors, removed in 76

flhwesty...there are differences between early and late run Z1 front ends (as was mentioned by GregZ). The late run Z1/Z1A/Z1B are similar though...see
www.z1enterprises.com
for a short discussion about these. You should also be aware that European vs North American release Z1's front ends differed by the use of the side reflectors on the sliders...none in Europe.

When did they go from ball bearing steering races to the tapered ones in the steering heads?
