Assuming you're speaking of offset versus number of tooth count in your question....
The cover is not the problem.... Evan at 1/2" (12mm) offset cc sprocket you will need to grind off some of the inner cover....
The problem is chain to frame clearances.... 12mm leaves ~ 3/16th inch clearance if using a 630 O-ring chain.... In converting to a 530 chain/sprocket setup you may buy yourself another 1/16th but not much more than that pending the chain design.....
Do a forum search for cc offset sprockets... Been discussed numerous times...

Interesting for I was under this same impression but since this discussion has been held so many frigging times where others replied the width is different pending chain manufacturer and which ring setup was in the design....
So, it truly is B.S. then....
Ah well, all I do know is a 630 with a 12mm(1/2") offset
works without hitting the frame. Tight yes but ~ 1/8th to 3/16" clearance... The chain to tire has plenty of room and I have 180mm on my rear swingarm.
And I did have to grind off the inner cover for the cc sprocket clearance...
Another source of quality sprockets....

The chain charts that are on line say that the #3 of 630 or 530 represents the width, and that they are indead the same width.
