I went from 16/38 down to 16/32 on my 750 twin. ran fine.Hi all. I am wanting to use my KZ1000P for more highway than in town, and pulling 5K at 70 is killing me. Currently have a 15/41 setup and am thinking of trying a 15/35. Anyone see any issues with that setup?
Thanks in advance.

I need to do the same thing to my 1000J. For some reason, there was a 42 tooth on the rear and the revs are killing me too. These engines have plenty of torque so, at least for me, spinning that fast at highway speeds is not necessary. Let me know how your swap turns out as I need to do something similar.
Will do, I got my 35 in today and will be putting it on over the weekend. I'll be sure and post how it does. I agree, these motors have pleanty of torque so there shouldn't be any problems off the line.
We'll see.

Thanks mumbles, I had to do my 1st sudo emergency maintenance last night, I made it home with 3 strands left on the clutch cable. Luckly she came with two spares. The Clymers manual BLOWS on cable replacment, but a little trial and error, and about an hour with a flashlight, and she was again ready for the rode this morning, wiped the ice off the seat and was on my way

A little cold but you made it home.
I forgot to mention that with the 16/38 sprocket set-up, the chain was to long and a link had to be removed. I belive stock is 98 links and now it's 96 links.

Man, I've been pretty lucky with my clutch cable not busting. I keep telling myself to have an extra one handy just in case but have'nt done it yet.

You are absolutely correct, the 98 chain is now a 96, and OH MY GAWD, she's a completely different bike. We decided to go ahead and change the sprocket last night after work, it was great fun. It started out just being a Sprint rider buddy of mine, and myself, and by the time we made it out of the office we had four of us headed to the garage with a fifth on the way. I don't think I actually turned but one bolt on my own bike the entire night, everyone else wanted to get their hands on her.
A little trial and error getting the axle out, one busted exhaust flange (that's another story for another post though  ) a few beers, and we had our selfs a little sprocket changing party.
The results:
City driving, 0-45 miles an hour, I ever got her above 4th gear. Off the line, if anything, the motor had ample torque and the smaller sprocket actually seems to make her pull harder off the line. I'm assuming that's because I now have a longer power curve in 1st and can actually feel her initial acceleration longer before having to shift, Oh What a BLAST :woohoo: .
Highway driving, 65 seems to be where she likes to run, no hum or top end vibration, she smooths out, and purrs at about 3650, and at 70 is pulling about 4100. I can't really give y'all gas mileage improvements yet, as I filled her up, rode her home, and the guage never made it off FULL! that was about a 40 mile one way trip, I know I would have used 1/8 to 1/4 tank prior to the change, I can't wait to get some real road time in and see what my mileage is.
I really can't tell any noticable power difference, every time I asked her for some, it was right there just like before, just at a lower RPM, but responsive as ever.
Conclusion, if you're thinking about sprocket changes for lower RPMs 15/35 seems to be right on the money. As soon as I have some MPG information I'll be sure and update the post.
 Now for the exahust issue
1-Any one know where I can find cheap header flanges? I think that's what their caalled.
2-Is there some trick to getting them (the header flange) torqued down enough, or installed correctly, to end the tiny exaust leak I now have with out breaking the flange?
Thanks again everyone for all your help!

Kryton.
I just checked BikeBandit, and now I'm REALLY confused!
The exaust on mine has the flange, and 2 small shims that press up against the header. BikeBandit is showing the flange, and then a round coller that presses against the header, not the two small shims.
Is there something my tiny little brain is missing?
