you can take the ignition advace off...but be sure to mark the cam/black round thing under the crank bolt.....as it will go back in the ignition advace either the way it was or if you dont mark it 180 degrees dif....a thirteen mm sockett and the bike in gear on the side stand will free the nut...dont use a 17mm wrench on the inner nut or you will either just turn the crank or like i did ...sheer the crank pin.....the 13 mm end wrench and a small mallet to tap if the sockett wont free it..once you have the ign adv off you can remve the timing housing....lube the ign advace on the two little arms rivets and the groove under the cam/black thingy...before installing....you will be golden from there ...have fun craig(i just did mine friday and it was easy)do you have a shop manual?

You are going to polish the inside?
If you have the timing plate off as in the photo, you will have to time it from scratch unless you can tell exactly where the timing plate was oriented before you removed it.
If you remove/disassemble the advancer, note the advancer can go back on the hub in two ways. Only one way is correct (to maintain stock configuration). Otherwise it will be "180 out".
Edit: Trianglelaguna beat me to it by a few seconds.
Also, if you look very carefully at the advancer arms, you'll notice two little darker pads. They are rubber and rest against the advancer hub. If they are missing, the timing will be altered. Be careful not to damage them with solvent or break them off while cleaning.

Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it. After I mess it up, I'll be back for more help.

Be careful polishing on this bike, if you polish it much more you aren't going to have anything left.

Damn dude. You got some skills. Wish you lived closer, my bike would be perma parked in your garage. I see your posts all over the board, you should open a shop.
Thanks again.
