I have a KZ1000E shafty with leaky front forks. Also i wasnt too impressed with the handling as when i leaned right in a turn, it would seem like the bike wanted to pop up to straighten inself. I have KZ1100A parts bike and want to switch out the forks. The new forks have air assist and i really liked that ride on my old KZ1100D. Does anyone know why this cant be done? or any potential problems?

Thanks Otakar. Having seen what you did with your bike,(Awesome) I took your word for it and plunged into the project last night. Got the front forks from the 1100 removed... waiting on fork seals. they arent leaking bad but since i had them out...what the heck might as well do it. :)
The one issue i did see was that i will have to cut part of the headlight bracket in order to fit the air equalizer(??)
in. No biggie.

Make sure they are the same diameter before you get too involved. The KZ1000E used some nice big fork legs, the 1100A used smaller legs I think. I don't see dimensions listed, but give a look and I hope they are the same.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I did measure the forks last night and yes they are different diameters.Would the triple trees clamping around the 38mm forks be able to clamp around the 36mm forks? I'm not to worried about the rake of the triple trees. I haven't removed the forks off the 1000 yet so i dont know if they will clamp on the 36mm. As soon as the fork seals arrive i will do so and i can test fit the 36s in the triple trees to see if they will clamp. Thanx for all the info.

It won't work then. You can't clamp 36mm tubes into 38mm triple clamps I'm afraid.

Ahhhh.... the best laid plans go to waste.I talked to a local bike shop guy who also said they would not work. He strongly suggested staying with the 38s and not even bothering with switching out the triple trees. I guess i'll just replace the fork seals on the 38s and put them back on the bike. Anyone know how much oil and what weight needs to go in those forks?
