Need help with changing a rear tire... was created by eriefeeling
Hello all, I am in need of some advise or suggestions. I am trying to change the original rear tire on my '81 KZ 650. My problem is that the bead is basically cemented to the rim. I cut the tire off and just have the beads attached to the rim. Does anyone have any ideas for getting these beads off the rim?

I would apply a solution of dish detergent and water to the bead/rim area and keep it wet for a couple days to see if it loosens.

I'll bet brake fluid will dissolve it. You could also spritz it with brake cleaner spray (acetone) along the stuck edge.

If you have a hi-lift jack I put the wheel & tire on some 4x4s and jack it from the bumper of my truck to the bead. Ive since bought a Harbor Freight tire machine with a bead breaker. On a Bonneville bike Ive had to actually saw the tire off the rim and then ground the bead away with a Dremel tool. Its a bigger pain if you have the bead locks on the wheel.
