Openend up the front brake reservoir on the 74 Z1 900 and found this half solid crap. Any suggestion`s on how to clean it out of the lines?

Toss the lines in the burn pile and get new ones. I doubt if all that stuff could be removed, and the lines are probably too old to use anyway. The master cylinder MAY be salvageable if it is not too pitted. The reservoir may be ok, depending on how hard that muck is to remove.
IMO, brakes should not be skimped on, nor shoud the cheap option be taken. Your life and the life of any passenger depends on them working flawlessly every time.
My 2 1/2 cents worth.

That's a great example of why we should all change brake fluid on a regular basis. Forget trying to save the brake lines. If they look anything like the reservoir they're better off replaced. You should consider completely rebuilding (or replacing) the master cylinder, but another issue you didn't mention is the brake caliper(s). They really should be opened up, cleaned out, and rebuilt if you find similar crud in them. TexasKZ is correct - don't try to save money by taking shortcuts on the brakes or you may pay the ultimate price. Ed

Hey this brings to mind a question I have wondered about lately.
PLEASE as earlier stated BRAKES are not to be overlooked. slighted or guessed at.
So PLEASE only answer my question, if you are 100% positive.
So here goes.....can Silicone Brake Fluid, "REPLACE" the paint stripping, moisture attracting DOT 3 and 4 ?
I don't mean is it OK to simply ADD, I mean to fully flush the DOT 3 or 4 out of ones system and replace it with Silicone fluid.
Just wondering, I would love to make the upgrade if possible.

I forgot....LOL
That crapola in your master cylinder looks like it may be a mixture of rust.
If I were you, as cheap as they are I would replace the steel lines as well as the purportioning valve. One tiny flake of rust in your brake system can ruin your day!

This guy does pretty inexpensive master cylinders on ebay. Has a couple of versions. One annodized (I think) and one chrome. Good luck.

im guessing the mastercylinder and calipers might be rebuildable but youre gonna have to strip them all the way apart 1st to inspect whats salvagable,id definately pitch the hoses though

Totally rebuild the M/C and use a dremmel with a stailess wire brush to clean out the big stuff. Try to find a small brush for the small stuff.
