What is,LTD,Spectre and CSR, the specs on these models and what does it mean? I have a 1980 KZ 750 4cyl. standard ;so what does the LTD have different? Maybe, a stupid question but I have yet to get a good answer.

Anyway, I was just wondering.

It is all external styling. LTD is a cruiser with Mag wheels. CSR is a cruiser with spoke wheels. Spectre is an upgraded LTD with some gold trim, black exhaust and shaft drive. But The 750 did not come in the Spectre and CSR in 1980 or 81. Not until 1982.

Well Ray, if we stick with just 750(4)s, then it makes it easier as there never was a 750CSR. The differences of the other two (750 Spectre (aka KZ750N1/2) and 750LTD (aka KZ750H1-4)) were, like otakar said, fundamentally cosmetic. All three bikes had different steering head angles, the LTD and Spectre had 16" rear wheels (and the N model was a shaft drive), and the Spectre and LTD had 'pull-back' style handlebars...motor-wise, the Spectre had a higher BPH rating than the early E models and the LTD models.

not sure if this applies to the 750, but I think I read somehwere that my 550 spectre had different carbs than the LTD counterpart as well.

The Ltd & CSR are chromed models, whereas the Spectres are black & gold.
The CSRs have spoked wheels except for the 83 650 model.

The KZ750-E model has less chrome, standard styling w more suitable handlebars, a flatter seat & a larger fuel tank.

"CruiSeR" and was introduced in 1981 with the 250, 305 650, 1000. However we used to call it the "Chick-Saddle-Ride" or the "Cushion Seat Roadster"

When it was first listed it was listed as Csr. That looks like a abbreviation to me. On the side covers however they use all caps. Just like Ltd. LTD for "Limited" I don"t think that "Competition" is intended with the CSR. Not with those front forks, Ape hangers, spoked wheels, and rake. Also the CSRs are only listed as KZ not Z. This means that it was intended only for the US market, as a less expensive Cruiser than the LTD and Spectre. Unofficially in the back shop of the dealership we used to call it the "Cheap Shit Roadster" Because it was missing all the little goodies like the Reserve lighting unit, the stand alone fuel gage and it was the only road bike at the time that went back to the spoke wheels and had to use inner-tubes in the tires.

Was the term cruiser applied to motorcycles back in the day?

Yes, That is when we started to use the term Cruiser. We used to call the LTDs "Preppy Choppers"
