Z1B Master Cylinder Rebuild was created by HEYJACKO
Hi Guys Great Forum you have going here. I am about to rebuild the front master cylinder for my Z1B, my first rebuild. The manuals refer to a special tool for doing the rebuild. Does anyone know if the tool is necessary or if there is a work around for it?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi mate, yep, special tool will be a certain type of circlip pliers and a vacuum bleeding system of some sort. The circlip pliers will need to be very long nosed and thin to reach down beside the piston to release the clip. I recommend you buy a rebuild kit from Z1E they are fantastic to deal with, the bleed kit you can get from any decent auto parts store, they are a bugger to bleed on the bike. ALSO, have a CLOSE look at the cylinder bore, you most likely will find it pitted and will need a re-sleeve, not expensive and most brake specialist should be able to organize it for you.

cheers,
Kt

I'm rebuilding the Front MC on my 77 KZ1000 at this time. I have a set of CirClip Pliers but was able to remove the Circlip with a pick type of Tool. It took about 15 mins to strip the Master after I removed it form the Bike. About 30 mins to clean all the Gunk out of it. My rebuild kit from Z1E will be here some time to tomorrow. Not a very difficult job if you have the Parts break down from the Manual.

Thanks guys! All the info. is a great help. I kind of thought that getting the clip off wouldn't be too tough with a set of picks. Will a standard set of circlip pliers get into the cylinder far enough? The "special tool" the manuals refer to don't really say what the purpose of it is.

I've been going through this forum for a few months now and it's been a great help. I am pretty stoked....finally got the beast turning over on a regular basis and now I'd kind of like to be sure I can get it to stop before I take it out for its first run.:)

I used a standard set of Circlip pliers to put the clip in today. Keep the clip holes at the notch were the brake lever goes in and you will be ok. Of course if you can find a way to keep the plunger down (I wrap Elect tape around it) it makes it easier. Good luck.
