mirror vibration

For you fellows with older Z's are your mirrors useful at any speeds above 70 mph? Mine vibrate so badly that everything is a blur.

are they stock mirrors, I have had issues with some cheap aftermarket types

My left mirror is pretty good up to 60, then vibes make it blurry. My right is just the opposite, it's mostly blurry between 25-75, then clears up over 75 to crystal clear!

I have emgo mirrors (came w/bike) and they aren't great (they do have a larger area though which I like) but I can tell the difference between a civilian vehicle and a smoky:whistle: . When I had my '76KZ900 w/stock mirrors I couldn't tell what was behind me after about 80.

I've used a few different types of mirrors,and in MY opinion...if You want to see clearly what's behind You,while riding these old KZ's...remove the engine!

Seriously though...what about a "Barsnake" or the "Barsnake Gel"...I've never tried either of them,but I have heard that using one will cut down on the vibration up in the bar area...

Since you brought up the Barsnake, I can report that I installed one I bought a couple of weeks this past Tuesday evening. I would say that was about 40% effective on the mirror blurring (it's still there at revs above 5k, but not as bad as I can probably make out a vehicle now). The vibration through the grips seems reduced by about half or a bit more.

For $30, I'll give it 2.5 stars out of five. It's effective, but wasn't a cure-all on my 650. Now, if I had a lot of time and patience, I'd get another set of bars and try the lead shot.

Change your handle bars. Get flat or superbike bars. You will be looking at your elbows all the time and won't be able to see behind you, therefore fuzzy image not a problem.

It's a long polymer rod that is supposed to absorb the vibration. You can learn more at www.barsnake.com/ .

I have KZ1000 mirrors and to help I got the irrors adjusted how I liked then I put silicone around the mirror gluing the plastic back to the mirrors.

Mine are stock.
The left is good to about 60mph. The right goes south at about 50.
The glass is adjustable inside the plastic 'frame'. Don't know how to take it apart to tighten up glass. Maybe I could squirt silicone behind the glass, but then I couldn't adjust them again.
