OMR, Jason has a '78 KZ1000...
Take another splined section from a second Kickstarter arm, and weld it onto your existing Kickstarter Arm. This should step you out far enough without having to put a bend in your Kickstarter. I couldn't find the Arm I have here to show you, but you get the idea,

i didnt know thatYou could also try the stronger, heavy duty J or GPZ11 starter as they are a straight bolt in swop and use four commutator brushes instead of the earlier 1000's two.

Yes , Any of the later J style engines (1980-ish and on) with no kickstart shaft use heavier duty four brush motors.
