81 KZ440 belt drive question was created by Digitlghost
I have an 81 KZ440 A1 (chain drive) bike. I was wondering, is it posible to change to the belt drive that was available for that bike? Would it just require a belt and sprockets?

It seems like I've read about this conversion, but usually in the other direction - I'd guess because belts are either expensive or hard to find.
Until someone who knows chimes in... Using the diagrams at Kawasaki.com... Not 100% sure what bike you have... There's a 1980 A1 & an 81 A2. It may not matter though, since they're virtually identical. The cross-reference for the 80-81 A & 80-81 Ltd-Belts shows that just about everything at the rear wheel is the same, including the swingarm & axle. At the transmission they have the same output shaft & other stuff; you might need the Belt's claw washer. So, it looks promising from a rank amateur's perspective.

I was of a similar mind. I think it will work. I still wonder if the housing over the front sprocket is deep enough. I guess I'll find out. I found a comlpete kit and I'm going to give it a try. I know most people want to go from belt to chain but I am going to bob this bike so I thought it might give it a unique flair to go with the belt drive.
