1974 900 Z1 modified to look like a LTD , some engine mods. But I still have all the original parts.
1977 1000 project bike
1972 H1 project bike
If pro is opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?
GRIMECA REAR BRAKE was created by patmann
Here's the deal/problem TODAY.. on my 74' Z1 the first owner wanted it to look like my 1977 1000 LTD and stop like it. So he did a Grimeca rear brake conversion on it twenty plus years ago.
It's now starting to make some noises, strange to describe.
Kinda' a eerk/squeak ish noise, NOT a grinding sound at all, but if I touch the rear pedal it stops.
I'm torn between riding it as is, and tearing into it.
I can't seem to find the correct shoes for it IF it is them ( and I highly doubt it is from the sounds ).
As mine are different from all I have found.
Any ideas????

Does it look like this(CB 750 Shown)?
If you look at the right hand side of the axle, there is a "slice" in the aluminum caliper bracket. The "slice" has an allen bolt to clamp it in place(around the axle spacer). This is what you use to center the caliper on the disc. If the caliper isn't centered, it can cause all kinds of funkified noises. Also check all of the mounting bolts for looseness.
I forget where I got the brake pads, but they weren't that hard to find. The Grimeca calipers are used in the carting scene. The same exact calipers were also used on a 6 wheeled amphibious thing I had in the shop (I forget the make, but it was made in Canada).
My caliper didn't have any seals in the piston bores when I got it, but the caliper seals for the KZ 900 fit like they were made for it.

Grimecas are still available. I got those for the vetter bike, then switched to the correct Lockheed units.
You mentioned earlier models, do they have solid rotors? If so, I was under the impression that they tend to squeal after the "scuff" went away?
