Use a ballpeen hammer and a towel to check the frame end to end. cover the frame with the towel, and rap it medium strength every inch or so with the ball end. you will feel a big difference in sections that have rott.
I once inspected a guys frame for him with a punch and hammer, and found 5 small sections that were as thin as soda can!
Just dont dent/damage your paint!

Do you have electronic ignition? If so disconnect it when welding so nothing gets fried.
How do you disconnect it? Just by simply totally disconnecting the cables to the battery and taping them off and maybe pulling the main fuse? I guess if welding is done by electricity, the ground of the welder should be on the bike frame?
