we used to use a rod called 308-16 i believe it was called for welding stainless back when i used to wire packing plants, beautifull welds with it.Don't get 6013 rod. I just went through about a dozen rods of it and now I want to stab myself in the neck. Total butcher job, especially welding stainless with plain steel, oh and did i mention the metal had paint on it too...
Sorry, just had to vent.
i always considered 6013 to be good for welding stuff that was going to be covered with mud!

i bet you could pick up a decent used miller or hobart wire welder for the same price as that torch kit, craigslist is full of stuff these days omaha.craigslist.org/tls/1836064610.htmllol yeah you use 6013 in oil apps and stuff...or on the side of a naval vessel....lol not on anything you want seen and admire by the public.

NO... do NOT lower your amperage (within limits of course) for the rod size... Instead use a smaller size low hydrogen 7018 for example gauge rod on appropriate current settings for smooth, non slagged/porosity welds.
