what tooth sprockets too use? was created by gcarson64
i am getting ready to replace the chain and sprockets. i am wondering if i need to even replace the sprockets (there is no damage or wear that i can see), or if i just need a new chain. the bike only has 9500 miles. so i would think goin by that you wouldnt need new sprockets yet. please answer thanks.

You always put on new sprockets with a new chain or else the worn sprockets will screw up the chain. Sprockets cost a lot less than a good chain. Try Z1 Enterprises for the best deal on good X ring chain.
I don't know if 15/38 is stock for your bike. My 750 twin came stock with 16/38 and most people with them run 17/38 because the stock gearing is too low. Not sure what the best gears for yours are. The guys at Z1 know this stuff no problem, give them a call.

Stock is 16t on the front, not sure about the rear on the LTD. Std model KZ550 has a 40t rear and the GPz has a 38t rear. I have 17/38 on my 550 , it's nice on the highway, but it is a little bit sluggish compared to stock gearing. It turns about 4600rpm @ 60, which is about 500 less than stock.
As mentioned above sprockets are pretty inexpensive, no point in wasting a new chain. Unless your sprockets have been changed they have wear @ 9500mis even if they dont look like they do. Whne you put them side-by-side with new parts you will see the ewear.
