'78 LTD Rear Caliper Mystery??? was created by jtate1000
On my '78 KZ1000 LTD, someone pointed out the rear caliper wasn't an LTD caliper. It basically looks like a front caliper, with a similar mounting bracket as what would be used for the "right" caliper. I went onto ebay and looked at some bikes for sale and there was a 1977 KZ1000 LTD with the same caliper as mine, but all the others were the caliper with the viewing window on top to see pad wear. Anyone familiar with this?

And by "right", I mean "correct", not right side...

I have a couple of those old calipers. They are cast iron and you have to remove them to install the brake pads.
I have one for a 650 also.
They are heavy and removing it will help your unsprung weight a lot.
Mine came off a "79" LTD. Roy

My '78 LTD has the same caliper you have and also has to be removed to change the pads, not really a big deal. David

I'm not worried about it, the setup is fine and I've already rebuilt it, etc... I'm just trying to figure out it it's original for that year, or a mod someone made somewhere down the line..
