How do I adjust the front brake pads on my 1978 KZ650 SR D? They seem to be rubbing on the disk, causing drag.
No adjustment.
The pistons in your calipers or the bolts the calipers slide on are sticking.
For the pistons, flush with clean brake fluid and work the piston in and out.
For the bolts remove one at a time, clean and grease.

How do I flush with clean fluid?
Just like bleeding your brakes, but you don't stop when you get good line presure.
Pump up the system by working the brake lever until no more pressure is gained.
Crack open the bleed valve on the caliper while still maintaining pressure.
Fluid should come out, will be rusty at first then clear up as you repeat process.
Do this to both sides and the rear since your at it.
I advise using a 6 point socket or wrench to avoid damage if stuck.
Continue until brake fluid comes out clean.

About the brake bleeding though, I tried to bleed them earlier by applying pressure on the brake lever while unscrewing the bleed screw, then screwing the bleed screw back in before letting off the lever. But i've come to the point where I now have no resistance whatsoever on the brake lever, even with the bleed screw in. The resevoir was dry so I added up to the fill line before I bled the brakes. None has gone down. Wtf?? Anyone know?
Thanks

Was the fluid cruddy?
Can you see the bottom of the resivior?
There are some holes in the bottom or the cylinder and if you pull the lever slowly air bubbles will come out of the holes if air is trapped in the master cylinder.
You could crack open the bottom bleeder and leave the cover off the master cyclider and let it gravity feed. Just watch the fluid level.
Don't pump the lever just let it flow on it's own. Roy
