Examine the shock body very carefully. You're looking for lettering on the body under the plastic sleeve that keeps the spring from rubbing the body. On my S&Ws you can make out the word "Monroe" and some model numbers. That's who actually produced S&W shocks in the 70's. S&W's are great shocks! Ed

I believe Progressive bought S&W, but I don't think the shocks are rebuildable (although the springs can be easily replaced). If you haven't tried them on the bike you may be surprised to find that they still work fine. When I took mine off about 3 years ago they still worked great. I only replaced them (with Hagons) because I wanted more of a stock look. Ed
