Well the UPS truck dropped them off today at 4pm, :) , but the order was incorrect, :( , so I emailed the problem and had a response in less than 10 minutes. I had ordered and paid for Chrome springs, but Black was shipped. Invoice shows Chrome, and as 15 minutes after the ups truck dropped them off, the Chrome springs have left the distributors. Also a prepaid shipping label to return the Black Springs is on its way, and they were very apologetic about the mistake. As someone who has ordered heap's of stuff mail order, way before the "Net", and over the "Net", this seems to be a pretty straight forward return/ order correction. It will turn out OK, and save some $, just another 4 day wait. That will make a total of 11 or 12 days between order and getting the correct goods. The first receipt of the order was just what the site said, 1 week from order. That's pretty good for free shipping, and the mistake is just the letter at the end of the spring part #, B instead of C.
Now I have to see about the riding difference next weekend. Hope the weather holds, it's been very unseasonably warm.

Yea we just saw the 113 on the news! I've got relatives in Oceanside, also Orange County, and lots of friends down San Diego way.
The Leaves are changing here big time, but we are around 15-20 degrees up from average. Next weeks forecast is still good, I say "Ride ON"!!

Motor:> Did you get them from Dynoman? I have the same bike, but took off the fairing and bags.I am currently waiting for the new front springs to arrive(hopefully Monday)and was thinking about taking off the OE rear air shocks.I was looking at the same rears(Black/Black).I have the Progressive front and rear set up on my 750,and really like the way it boosted up the ride hight.True, the forks were a little stiff for the first 2 years, but they are breaking in nicely.I only ride about 25 miles a day,all hi-way,back and forth to work,so I don't know if I'll need the heavy rears.I'm about 160#,but the 1100 is pretty heavy, even without the trunk and bags.Whatta ya think?

Yeah so I went ahead and ordered them from Dynoman.Black/black lighter springs.$236 delivered.Actually the same set as the 750.I run them on the third preload setting, and only over the heaviest bumps do they feel harsh.Pay-Pal LOVES me.

OK so as for this old post, an update on the improvement.
I went from the aged stock set up to the new Progressives. It is as advertised, quite an improvement in the rear. Spring rate for my application is perfect. I have them set at the second notch for pre-load. This leaves a few more notches for when I run the side bags with some gear. Going to do another long trip, and camp out this summer. So far no bottoming out, no rust on the chrome, and no leaks. I would recommend the upgrade for anyone with a more or less stock bike for the street. Chrome springs look good on mine since it is the Black/ Chrome LTD.

Motor Head wrote: Anybody out there have this combo? I've been kicking around getting some of them. Would replace the stock rears on my 82 1000LTD with these. I have a rack, trunk box, and removable side bags, with a 185lb rider. I found a place on the net where I can get them for $220 free shipping. Z1 is more and out of stock, thinking of giving them a chance to match price though. I've had good service but haven't been down the price match road yet.
Comments? :silly:

I have gas charged progressive rears with 80/120 springs. I weigh 180 and the rears are just right for street riding, a shade toward stiff but not too much for my old back.

Well after a 2100 mile trip I can say that the spring rate is perfect. Loaded up the trunk, Vetter bags etc. Only increased to the second notch from soft. That still gives more if more weight is carried. On the first notch I bottomed twice, so I turned it up one. Really a big improvement on stability when in corners, much more solid. Way better than the stock old and somewhat worn shocks.

Yes mate, stock swing arm. I did add to the front weak springs about an 1.25" spacer to add preload there. I also run 13-16psi in each leg. Like you said in another post, the leading axle is always a bit different. The A2 I had was better in the corners, no leading axle. But its no racer for sure.

I was trying to figure out why those springs were good for you and the lighter springs I had were entirely to stiff for me, so I went back and read the thread again.

Seems like your first post is the key:

I have a rack, trunk box, and removable side bags

Those three items have quite a bit of leverage since they are located behind the top shock mount, and at the tail end of the bike. That's probably the reason the stiff springs work for you.

I just have this innate drive to understand things, it will drive me crazy till I figure out exactly "why" something is happening. Must be why I've been divorced three times, it's impossible to understand "why" a woman does things.
