Shock Bushings

I purchased a set of harley shocks over the winter and I am almost ready to put the frame components back together but the bushings with metal sleeves on the new shocks will not fit over the mounting stud. Do I need to just take out the metal sleeve in the new shocks or do I need to swap the bushings from the original shocks to the new ones?

Do whatever you need to do in order to have a metal bushing/spacer/ring.....over/around the mounting stud. Metal to metal is preferred as opposed to rubber to metal. Worse case scenario, you'll have to do a complete bushing swap OR purchase a new bushing kit of the universal variety. Good luck!

I am doing the same thing with the harley shocks except I am just going to drill the harley bushings out to fit the post.

That is kind of the direction I was going. What is the drill bit size you need?

Do you have a lathe with a three jaw chuck? It's kind of tough to drill a hole in a small round piece if steel using a regular vice.

If only a small amount of material needs to be removed I would suggest the use of a reamer instead of a drill bit.

I have in the past Pushed out the old bushings in a vise with a couple of Sockets, Then used the old bushings from the shocks that fit ,, Not sure this will work for you as I not familar with HD shocks
