Seat swap to a '82 LTD was created by Julian@MotoCARR
While I'm no fan of the seat that is on my bike, I'd like to not chop it up because it's in pretty good shape considering the bike only has 10k on it. Scouring eBay there are straight seats available like the one below, but my question is, will a seat from say a 650 or 550 or any other KZ fit my '82 LTD? I was under the impression that the only difference between LTD and "non" LTD was the bars and seat.

I'd seriously doubt another bore size bike seat would match up for a one to one swap. Your best shot is looking at seats from the same model bike over a few years the bike you have was made. Can't really depend on part numbers as the type of cover on the seat will give it another part number even if the seat pan is the same (which is the key to finding a swap due to shape, rubbers and hinge placement).
If it were me I'd look for the same exact seat and buy it then take it to a good upholstery shop to have it made the way I want. You can trim the pan some beforehand if that is something your looking to do to, you will just be stuck with the attachment points and the general shape unless you go nuts and start torching the frame and hinge points,

The only 'drop-on' replacement seat for your bike is from another LTD1000 (1981/1982) or a CSR1000 (1981/1982). Issues about fitment have to do with the pan shape in relation to your frame. It is possible to fit a GPz1100 style seat but you'll have to do some fabrication--see a thread by a member named 'otakar' who fundamentally made a GPz style bike from his CSR1000. I'm thinking that the thread had 'GPz1150' in the title. Another approach would be to take your seat to an upholsterer and have them reshape and recover your seat (as was mentioned by KZ_Rage).

Be careful of shafty parts, my E1 and the A3A have a lot of common parts and though the seats look really similar they won't swap.

750 eh? I mistakenly assumed you were chatting KZ1000LTD. Ignore every thing I said...with the exception that if the seats are of different length, then that might impact how it butts the tank.
