So the service manual of the day calls for a 3.50 V-19 4PR on the front and a 4.50 V-17 4PR on the back and it appears that time has changed the way tires are measured. I have a MT90HB17 Dunlap on the rear and a 100-90-19 on the front, both of which are in need of replacement. The question is, what does the original dimensions convert to in todays metric appearing world?
Originally, I was thinking raised white letters but that limits my choices severely. Any recommendations out there? I'm trying to restore the bike to as close to original as possible, so I'm not looking to find ".....the widest tire that will fit." But, I would like something that doesn't look skinny and will provide a smooth ride.
Thanks folks.

I have a 130/90-17 on my rear. That's about as big as I could go without getting into clearance issues. Guys with chains have it so easy to offset the sprocket. Shafts, not so much. But if someone knows a way, I'd love to hear it! B)

I run a 140 on the rear of my shafty without pinching, but when I do it next time I'll go with the 130 as you do get a change in the turn-in when you are hard leaning through an unexpected decreasing radius curve at ticket speed...

I appreciate it guys. I was surprised that my local dealer was so little help. Anyway, knowing a 130 will work on the rear is good as it does make for more options.

I'll stick with the 130 just in case I get into one of those unexpected decreasing radius turns. Not that I plan to be there, do that, but you never know. ;)

I put conti-go on my Xs1100 shaftie formthe same reason of getting the right sizes. When I went for my MOT test the guy was concerned as these are not rated for that weight of a bike and could be dangerous if pushed. Pity because after my Avon roadsliders they had a nice feel with their rounder profile, was scraping foot pegs etc.
