a few newbie questions

I just started a build on a 76 KZ750. I am going for a cafe style. I have another 750 engine and a hardtail frame sitting in the shed for my next project already. I've got a few questions I just can't seem to find the answers to.

I cut up/fiberglassed/covered the touring seat that was on the bike, its not pretty, but I think it came out decent for a first attempt, and it is comfy!



I want to chop off the rear frame behind the shock mounts. I have been told by some friends that in order to do so, I will need to fab up and weld in a support bar between the shocks. I dont have the skill or the tools required to do this. I've looked at a lot of builds though, and it seems a lot of people dont add in this bar, and if they do its part of the seat. I would love to not have to take it to a fab shop and pay tons to get this done, but If its unsafe not to then i'll bite the bullet at do it.

I also want to relocate the electronics to clear up the area under the seat a little. What are people doing with them?

u sholdnt have to pay tons of money to have a piece welded on, take the frame to any decent welder BEFORE u cut off the rear, I could do it in 15 minutes and I'm not a pro

if u really want to do some bike customizing i suggest u learn to weld, buy a used welder and go to it, or go to ur local community college and take a class, it aint that hard

Yes it is better to reinforce the frame.
One tube between the upper mounts will do.
What are you going to do about lights?

as long as ur at it get a torch and a angle grinder, make ur own shit , thats what i do

Ive got an angle grinder. Our family used to have 3 welders before out restoration business went under, I wish I still had them! I have a spot welder, but thats good for just about nothing.
