GPZ front brakes was created by baldy110
I have a set of 279mm front brake rotors that bolt up the early 80's gpz style front rim. according to the manuels I have the GPZ bikes had rotors of 260mm. Does anyone know what had the 279mm rotors maybe a later GPZ? Thanks

Kawasaki Brake Disc Measurements

Z1100A1-A3 shaft. Front disc =236 mm, rear disc= 236 mm.

GPz B1 twin shock model. Front disc = 236 mm, rear disc = 236 mm

GPz B2 twin shock model. Front disc = 246 mm, rear disc = 236 mm

Z1000J. Front disc =236 mm, rear disc =236 mm

GPz 1100A1-3. Front disc =246 mm, rear disc =236 mm.

However, the unitrack discs look different in design/style to the B2 ones. Worth a closer look to see if the mountings are the same though.

And an expanded listing of compatable disc's for several models(I believe the "K" listings are for EBC brake systems part numbers)):

OK, after much research I found out the 1983 GPz750 turbo model wsa the only GPz series with 280mm front brakes, actually 279.40mm. I guess that is the set I have.

So, we know the larger rotors fit on an early big GPz...are you running the stock brakes or did you have to upgrade to the later brakes?

No, the big GPz's had the same size rotors and used the same calipers as the GPz750's. I bought an 82 GPz750 about 7 years ago for an ELR clone project. The 750 had been raced back in the day and had safety wire all over it and a bunch of performance mods. Well I have finally gotten around to finishing the project and when I re-installed the front brake rotors which came on the bike my GPz1100 calipers did not fit. The caliper carriers were to short. I measured the rotors and found out they were 279.40mm. I measured the rotors from the 1100 and they measured 260mm. I figured the previous owner who raced this bike back int he 80's must have installed the 83 GPz750 turbo rotors and brakes for better braking. Probably one of those cheap upgrades back in the day. I figured since the rotors are larger they should work better than the smaller ones so I will use them.

I think you will find that the 1984/85 750 turbo and the 1983/84 gpz 1100 take the same rotors i have both and rotors are the same.

82 rotors ( 7 spoke rims ) have 7 rotor bolts. The 83 and up Uni-Track models with 3 spke wheels all use 6 rotor bolts. Therefore I highly doubt they are from a Uni-Track bike, cuz they do not interchange.

Although you will find that the 7 spoke REAR rotors are 280mm and have the same bolt pattern as fronts...you can bolt them onto the front wheel if memory serves correct. They are thicker than the fronts though.

Both my 1985 GPz900R and my 84 ZX750E1 Turbo use 280mm front rotors, WITH 6 bolts ( the drill pattern is diferent between these models but do interchange )
