Rear (upper) shock stud

I own a KZ1100-A2 (1982). Can anyone tell me if the upper shock mount stud is removable, and can be replaced? I've broken off about 3/8" from the threaded end trying to remove the nut that somehow seized on the threads. This blows my mind, since I've had it off several times when switching out my luggage rack and grab bar, with no problems.
I still have about 1/4" of thread into the nut, but would like to replace the stud...if possible.
Any suggestions?

youll have to grind the welds off of both sides then weld new one back in,if you can cut it off leaving 1/2" or so you might be able to find a hole saw that fits tight around whats left and use it without a drill bit to cut through both sides

Sounds complicated. How much of the bike would need to be disassembled to accomplish that process? Thanks...

The rear wheel,the shock, the (maybe)body side cover, and move any wire bundles out of the way. Which side of the bike? If the right side, move the brake line and caliper out of the way too.

it could be done over a weekend pretty easily i think if youre a good welder

The stud is on the left side, and has enough thread to get about 1/4" of nut on it. I doubt there is a safety issue, and think it will get me through this riding season OK. :whistle:

Does anybody know where a replacement stud might be available, other than having it made by a machine shop?

well the shock cant really go anyplace as long as bottem bolt is in there,id loc tite it and ride it.
just keep an eye on it

gotta agree with wireman. dont think it would go anywhere.found a guy on the net that makes alot of cool stuff for lawson rep bikes. he had a stud extender made from titanium.really nice piece but,kinda expensive. somewhere around 100 bucks.

what if he cut the threads off , then drilled and tapped the stud in about 1/2" for a bolt ?
he's probably ok if he just leaves it be though.
