I have a 1976 kz900ltd. the question i have is- do i have to remove the rear wheel to remove the pads?

Disc brakes No, Drum Brakes Yes.

The rear brake caliper will have 2 bolts, they are the "Slides" which the Caliper Floats on, this is also the removal bolts. Main Caliper Bracket stays in place.

your rear caliper on that bike should take same brake pads as your front caliper B)
