I am finally putting her back together and ran across this. I found this mixed in with my other parts to my bike. It looks newer but not sure. My bike is a 1980 KZ1000 LTD.

I'm just guessing, and am probably wrong, but it looks kind of like the nut that holds the rear axle on, with the slots so you can line it up to put a cotter-pin through to hold it in place. Though...it doesn't have the usual hex-pattern on the outside. I'm curious too now and am subscribing so I can learn what it is! LOL!

Yeah it looks like that or a nut that would go on the steering stem. But I have all the pieces needed for the steering stem accounted for. It is probably from something else.

I was just hunting through parts diagrams for your bike and came up with nothing. That thing looks VERY familiar for some reason though...and now I'm hooked. Someone will tell us what it is...I hope! LOL!

It looks a lot like the thrust adjusters Suzuki uses to move the engine and swingarm in and out of the frame for alignment.

That could be what it is. I bought a newer GSXR swingarm off of feebay and it could be to that. I plan on replacing the front and rear suspensions sometime down the road.

That's probably it then. I have a few in my garage I'll check em out later, pretty sure they are real similar to that though. Suzuki uses that stupid four tooth socket.

Edit: here are examples of the Suzuki thrust nuts, one engine mount and one swingarm mount. These are from an 08 I believe, you can see the similarity. If your swingarm was a <2001 or so that would make sense.
