I had to replace the speedometer drive and apparently didn't take notice of the gap between the drive and the wheel center hub cap when removing the original. Is this big of gap normal?

I know there is some kind of drive notch or slot that has to mate. make sure it's in right.

Darn nobody can go and look at their front wheel and tell me if there is that big of gap on their bikes? By the way it is a 1980 KZ1000

I don't think it's right, but only takes 30 seconds to put the axle through and begin to tighten the axle nuts. If any resistance to easy roll of the wheel by starting to tighten the axle, the tangs in the drive are not aligned correctly with the cut outs in the wheel. That's what it looks like, the drive is not aligned correctly but give it a go with the axle to see.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

just looked at mine a 1980ltd 1000 there is about a 1/16 gap between drive & hub.

Well I assembled the front wheel and put it on the bike. Tightened everything up and it still looks like there is a good sized gap between the wheel hub cover and the speedometer drive unit.

Can anyone else with a 1980 KZ1000 or similar set-up tell me if this looks right?
