Is it possible to replace 1979 KZ650SR rear 16" and front 19" wheels with 1980s KZ 5-star 18" rear and 19" front wheels? What would it require? Thanks

You already have a 19" wheel on the front now and IIRC the SR model front wheel is slightly wider than the mag wheel that came on a 650C or 650F model. As for the rear the easiest thing to do is just to swap the 18" rear wheel off a 650 C model. I have a spare wheel from a 650C model if you need it. Yu might be able to use the rear wheel from an 80's model but the front is going to be a bit of a problem since they used a leading axle design and the axle is a different size than what you have now and will not fit your front end without changing wheel bearings. Hope this answers your question.

Thank you. this is helpful. I like the look of the 5 star mags a little more but worry that even if I swapped bearings and used an axle, sprocket, etc. from the 550 wheel I might encounter width issues and break alignment and sprocket issues. My main objective is to put an 18 in the rear rather than keep the 16 so the 650 C idea is probably the best route.

5-spoke, or 7 spoke?

I think only the 82 and 83 KZ550H (gpz550) had 5 spoke wheels (18 rear, 19 front). The rest had 7-spoke. 19 front, and 18 or 16 rear.
