Would anyone know if the top triple clamp from a 1000 Police would swap onto my 82 1000 LTD? Other than finding out that they both have 38mm tubes and the same stem bearings, I've been unable to determine the Police tree's spacing and offset. My intent is to remove the ignition and gauges, change to upright risers, and end up with a clean clamp. Any other candidates, while retaining my bottom clamp? Much thanks, in advance !!!

Hmmm, OK, guess I need to approch this in a different way.
Would someone with a KZ1000 Police be willing to measure their top clamp for me? Need distance between the center of the tubes, and the distance from the center of the steering stem to the tubes centerline. Rough (tape measure) measurements should work.

I seem to remember reading that the police bikes had a wider triple clamp.

The forks where spread further apart for a wider front tire.

I don't own one to measure, so I can't give you a positive answer. It may depend on the year as well.

Lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc. Here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

Would probably show which triple tree components are shared between the comparative bikes.

Good Fortune! :)

I have the forks off a 1991 KZ1000P10. They are wider than the standard KZ1000 forks. The distance between the fork tubes is 6.768" or 171.9MM (sorry I'm a machinist). I believe from 82'-02' the police bikes trees are the same.

Good luck

I've searched and have found only one mention of this, but am hoping someone can confirm for me. Would the top triple clamp off a KZ1100 (81-83 A3 Shaft, 83 L1 LTD, and 82-83 D2 Spectre) work on my 82 KZ1000 LTD?
