I helped a friend this weekend to install a new centerstand that he got from Z1E. Can any of you remember if the Kerker hardware kit includes a stop for the centerstand? I thought it did but here is what he has....can any of these be used (see picture below)? I will also include a second picture that shows how a similar bracket is used on the GPZ550 model. Will one of these brackets work like this on the KZ1000? I can't find Kerker instructions anywhere for the KZ1000 and his are gone, but he did save all of the hardware. Thanks!

Included hardware from Kerker:

You have the piece in the kit, its the triangle shaped plate. It bolts to the inside of the center stand mounting bolts. The others are brackets for hanging the megaphone.

That's exactly what I was hoping for. Can't wait to try it out, thanks! I'll try to post a picture of it for those souls as lost as me...

Hate to say it, but that little stop will make the centerstand hang kinda low. Without the dual exhaust there to hide it, it hangs down and looks kinda goofy.
Just sayin'

Don't know about hanging lower, but to my eye it truly does just stick out down there like a sore thumb, looking all gawd-awful and everything.

Would guess this is likely one of the main reasons folks with right-side-exit 4>1 exhaust systems prefer leaving off the center stand. More so than the weight factor.

The center stand is of course very handy for routine maintenance and for many repairs and procedures. And while touring, it is particularly missed for regular chain-lubing duties.

Hangs on the garage wall, with other "tools."

Good Fortune! :)

Yea, I agree....I don't really like how they look. I keep mine in the garage and put it on when needed. My friend wants to leave his on though so...that's what we'll do.

They sure are handy....even in the garage the bike seems to take up less room than when it's leaned over.

If the centerstand hangs low I will look into modifying that bracket a little or making another one used in a similar way but will allow the center stand to tuck in a little better.

The problem with letting it go up higher is youll loose spring tension and it will flop up and down.

I modded mine to let the centerstand come up a bit higher but there's precious little room for that. It will hit the chain before you can get it up high enough not to look like something that should be hanging off of a tractor. So, I just took it off and stashed it away for when it's needed. It's easy to put on and take off for maintenance (don't put the spring on for that).

If you do decide to take it off, watch out for that spring! It's an angry little devil when it comes off its perch!

My friend finally got around to installing his new centerstand today...got a new stand, bolts and spring from Z1E. The stop supplied with the kerker looks like it will work really well. Here's the problem..........WE CAN'T GET THAT FLIPPIN' SPRING ON!!!

That thing is unbelievably strong and we just can't get the leverage we need to pull it far enough. I'm afraid we're going to have to pull the rear wheel (or at least the chain) so we can rotate the stand up high enough to get the spring on. Is there another way?? Man that thing is tough....got our @sses kicked by a spring!

When I replaced the spring on mine I had to apply so much pressure I thought I was going to knock the bike off the side stand. Of course, after I was finished I read the following idea:

"Before trying to install the spring wedge coins between each coil of the spring. This will temporarily make the spring longer so it will be easier to install. Remove the coins after installation is complete."

I don't know how well that works, but I know I will try it if I ever need to install another one of those springs. If you try it please let us know if it helps. Ed
