Naiveté in grownups is often charming, but when coupled with vanity, it is indistinguishable from stupidity.
Tis better to remain silent and thought a fool - than to speak up and remove all doubt.
Did ever think that maybe you've been doing it wrong all these years?

Is the R6 stem to short to use conversion bearings?
If the stem is long enough, then the following list shows part numbers for upper (first) and lower bearings to fit the stem. Part numbers start with 99, other numbers are dimensions in mm.
Yamaha YZF600 2000 25 48 15 99-3505-5 30 52 16 99-3521-5
Yamaha YZF600 2000 25 48 16 99-3507-5 30 52 17 99-3504-5
Yamaha YZF600 2000 25 48 16 99-3507-5 30 52 16 99-3521-5
Yamaha YZF600 2000 25 48 13 99-3509-5 30 52 17 99-3504-5
Yamaha YZF600 2000 25 48 13 99-3509-5 30 52 16 99-3521-5
Yamaha YZF600 2000 25 48 15 99-3505-5 30 52 17 99-3504-5
All Balls
Just to be clear, the above bearings listed fit the 79 KZ650 steering neck and the R6 steering stem.
Been thinking about making a stem out of titanium, but I'd have to do a lot of research to ensure it was safe.

You must have missed this part
Is the R6 stem to short to use conversion bearings?
I was just wondering why most people don't even consider the idea.
unobtanium for a stem ?
why?
Titanium is fairly common, and it machines nicely with HSS, and it's light, and it's cool I even have titanium wheel spacers on a 750 twin
I have a bike with a stock curb weight of 602 lbs, and my goal is to get it down as close to 500 as possible, and I've already done all the cheap and easy things (and I don't want to hear anything about "my" weight), and I can't afford $5000 for a set of carbon fiber wheels

dropping a hundred pounds is definatley nothing to sneeze at.thats a pretty good goal  .instant performance gain, brakes are more effective, suspension more active.
i really would like to see you get the carbon wheels tho  .
the bearing conversions are awesome in the right situation.
the thing about a stem swap is there is no conversion bearing to remember where you got it from and which one it was.you can just order up a stock (or tapered bearing set as applicable)for whatever year and model your bike is,install the new parts and your off.
i have had some really bastardized vehicles and appreciate not having to remember what different year and model i needed.
so with the stem swap you go to z1enterprise,redline,all balls or wherever you like to buy your parts and although your bike has !@#$%^&*(*() frontend hanging on it you simply order a bearing set for your year and model.
pretty straightforward.
some people just want easy they don't like to sit looking at id's od's and bearing #'s.
they just want what fits there bike.
