Yikes, I feel like even putting this up here will get me ridiculed right out of the forum, but we all gotta start somewhere right? So most of my experience is with building/racing cars, but the wife knows I've always wanted a bike and picked up a used 1981 KZ440 Ltd for me back in September for my 31st Birthday. So I spent some time riding and cleaning the bastard up, even randomly did some bobber style mods, but I'm kind of at a stagger point. Not sure where to go from here. So here are the questions I have....
1. How the hell do I do a 2 into 1 carb mod? I've looked, but cant seem to find details (although everyone talks about it)
2. This may seem stupid to ask, but are a lot of these parts interchangeable? (I am specifically referring to things like controls, gas tanks, etc. Seems like they would all just bolt on or weld on to the frame.
3. I'm interested in reducing the size of the battery (lithium ion) to clean up the area under the seat. again... where do I buy and how do i do?
4. Exhaust... man. I really wanna chop them down, heat wrap them and call it done, but have no idea if that is legal (But ive seen a lot of bikes on here with that look and love it)
Anyone live in the bay area willing to take me under their wing? Or maybe someone online that I could just email when I have stupid questions?

Dude! Epic link! That guy is pretty much doing what I would love to get my KZ to. Thanks for posting the link. So I notice on his bike some changes from the stock KZ. Tank looks different, new exhaust? Can you just slap any tank on? And I'll have to ask him about that exhaust...

I had a '76 kz400 for a while and I happened to find a website called kz400.com. A must for 400/440 owners. Kzrider is great but this website is a 100x more informational about your bike. Also at the bottom left there's a forum link, click on it. It will bring you to some armbell site and there are hundreds of guys on there doing bobber projects. They have specific 400/440 forum as well as 305's up to 750's. And for the exhaust I know if you look up Mac exhaust you can get dual or single setups. They look and sound great. Otherwise everything else is in that forum for your 440.
Oh yeah and I forgot, they also have the exact carb you need for a single carb setup. I went with a CR125 off a Honda 2 stroke and it worked perfectly. They also have a guy on there that makes the manifold out of the copper for about $80. But they have quite a few write ups for the single carb conversion on there. Very helpful. Made my setup easy as hell.
