KZ1000 Police fork

So, I have these late police fork legs, and they have a schrader valve on the top.

Ive never had a motorcycle with schrader valves on the fork, and I dont know what function they serve, well, not so much the valves but the vessel that they service...

Any ideas?

it was common back then. u just add air at the amount the manual suggests. it aids in the damping.

I dont have a manual for a bike with this type of fork.

What is the typical range here?

To be exact, the damping isn't affected; the springing is. Since contrapped air acts like a progressive spring, more air pressure makes for a stiffer spring. But it also increase seal friction, so the novelty quickly went away. You can get the same bottoming resistance, but with better compliance, by raising the oil level. Since air is progressive, reducing the room in which it can compress, springing will increase more rapidly.

no pressure recommended for these valves. I just bleed mine with the weight on the bike.

The FSM for the LTD 1000 (81-82) states 3.6 - 5.0 psi. BE VERY CAREFUL. Too much pressure can result in damage to the seals, too little means a mushy ride.

Does that mean you run 0 psi?

Yes. Special Police section of the manual. 0 pounds.
